Ungluten Your Laksa

Updated: Apr 13

Do you like Laksa? If you do, you will be glad to know that this dish is naturally gluten-free as long as you choose the right noodles to go with it.

Laksa gravy is made from dried chilies, shallots, turmeric, lemongrass, tamarind, galangal and shrimp paste. The broth is thickened with coconut milk and topped with prawns, chicken, eggs and tofu puffs. These are all non-processed food with no wheat in them.

Just make sure you choose non-wheat noodles to be put into your Laksa. These are the rice based noodles - thick bee hoon, thin bee hoon, kway teow and mee tai bak. The only sacrifice you have to make is not to have mee (yellow noodles) in them as those are made from wheat.

While this is a good gluten-free option if you eat out, do bear in mind that laksa gravy is high in calories. As such, try to go easy when it comes to taking the gravy.
